US program for residue surveillance in meat.
Definition
NRP targets 130+ compounds (antibiotics, hormones, heavy metals, pesticides). Lab results are reported to FSIS via the Public Health Information System (PHIS) in HL7 or JSON. Annual cycle published in the Red Book.
Origin
Program created in 1967 ; reinforced after Toxic Substances Control Act 1976.
