TARIC
European Union customs commodity code.
Definition
TARIC (Integrated Tariff of the European Communities) adds two digits to the 8-digit Combined Nomenclature (CN), forming a 10-digit code: positions 1–6 = Harmonized System, 7–8 = CN subheading, 9–10 = Community measures (anti-dumping, duty suspensions, tariff quotas). It drives import customs clearance into the EU.
Origin
Established by the European Commission's TARIC database (DG TAXUD), on the basis of Council Regulation (EEC) No 2658/87 on the tariff and statistical nomenclature and the Common Customs Tariff.
Example in context
0901 21 00 10 → roasted, non-decaffeinated coffee; the final two digits (10) carry a specific TARIC measure.
