SAD

The paper customs form behind the electronic CUSDEC declaration.

Definition

The SAD is a multi-copy form, numbered in boxes (e.g. box 1 declaration type, box 33 commodity code, box 37 customs procedure), used across the EU and EFTA for import, export and transit declarations. Its structured boxes map closely onto CUSDEC segments and elements, making it the functional reference model for electronic customs declarations before the Union Customs Code data-set transition.

Origin

Established under EU customs law; the SAD form and its data requirements are set out in the EU Customs Code Implementing Provisions (originally Commission Regulation (EEC) No 2454/93, Annex 37) and continued under the Union Customs Code framework.

Example in context

SAD box 37 « 4000 » (release for free circulation) maps to the CUSDEC customs procedure code conveyed in the CST/LOC declaration data.
