MT730 — Acknowledgement
Acknowledgment confirming receipt and formal review of an MT700, MT707, or MT710 by the receiving bank (typically advising bank or nominated bank). Mandatory preliminary step before any MT740/750/754 in the UCP 600 workflow.
Purpose
MT730 confirms to the issuing/advising bank that the receiving bank has: (1) received the message, (2) performed syntactic and UCP consistency checks, (3) accepted to proceed with the follow-up (advice to beneficiary, transfer, etc.). Without MT730, the issuing bank doesn't know whether the documentary credit has been accounted for on the advising side — therefore no shipping clearance for the beneficiary.

-}{5:{CHK:1234567890CD}} Common pitfalls
- :21: empty or NONREF: MT730 must point at the :20: of the acknowledged MT700. Otherwise issuing bank system fails to reconcile.
- MT730 issued without MT700 received: some banks issue a defensive MT730 after MT705 — invalid per UCP 600 (acknowledgment = MT700 only).
- No acknowledgment = no beneficiary advising: some banks wait for MT730 to advise the beneficiary (prudential clause). SLA delay < 24 working hours.
- :71D: ambiguous: charges should be OUR/SHA/BEN identified with applicable UCP fee schedule. Otherwise fee dispute.
