Advanced XML/CMS/PDF eIDAS signatures.

Definition

ETSI validity levels: B (Basic), T (Timestamp), LT (Long Term, with revocation info), LTA (Long Term Archive, with archive timestamp). XAdES uses XML Signature W3C + ETSI extensions. CAdES uses CMS RFC 5652. PAdES embeds signatures in PDF/A. Massively used in EU e-invoicing (Italy FatturaPA = XAdES, Spain = XAdES, France = XAdES or PAdES).

XAdES v1.1 published 2002 by ETSI ; CAdES v1.0 published 2002 ; PAdES v1.0 published 2009 ; all updated 2016 and 2020 (EN 319 1xx series).

Example in context

An Italian fattura elettronica is XAdES-B-LT signed by Aruba PEC ; transmitted to SDI ; retained 10 years with LTA guaranteed validity.
