865

X12 865 transaction set, the seller-initiated change acknowledgment/request.

Definition

The 865 plays a dual role: acknowledging an 860 sent by the buyer, or initiating a change request on the seller's side. Its header opens with the BCA segment (Beginning Segment for Purchase Order Change Acknowledgment), carrying an acknowledgment code analogous to the 855's and the PO number involved. Line-level changes use POC loops.

Origin

Defined by ASC X12 (ANSI-accredited standards body since 1979); the 865 belongs to functional group CA (Purchase Order Change Acknowledgment/Request — Seller Initiated).

Example in context

BCA*00*AC*PO-12345**20260620~ — acknowledgment of a change, accepted with modification (AC) by the seller.

  • 860 — the buyer's change request that the 865 acknowledges.
  • 855 — the original order acknowledgment.
