860

X12 860 transaction set, the buyer-initiated purchase-order change request.

Definition

The 860 changes an existing 850. Its header opens with the BCH segment (Beginning Segment for Purchase Order Change), whose purpose element commonly signals 04 (Change) or 01 (Cancellation). Line-level changes are carried in POC loops, which identify the line to change and the change action applied (quantity, price, add, delete).

Origin

Defined by ASC X12 (ANSI-accredited standards body since 1979); the 860 belongs to functional group PC (Purchase Order Change Request — Buyer Initiated).

Example in context

BCH*04*NE*PO-12345**20260620~ then POC*1*CT*5*10*EA*9.50*PE~ — quantity change (CT) from 5 to 10 units on line 1.

  • BEG — opening segment of the original order.
  • PO1 — the order line referenced by the change.
