Definition

PO1 is the order-side counterpart of IT1. Structure: assigned identification, quantity ordered, unit, unit price, basis, product code qualifiers. It opens each PO1 loop of an 850.

Origin

Present since the first 850 version (002001, 1983). Unchanged across all subsequent versions, it is one of the most used segments in North American B2B.

For an order of 100 units at USD 15.00: PO1*1*100*EA*15.00**VP*ACME-WIDGET-001*UP*012345678901. The quantity is firm and quantity×price coherence is checked by the receiver upon arrival.
