UNECE-REC-20

UNECE Rec 20 is the UN/CEFACT Recommendation codifying units of measure in international trade (KGM, MTR, PCE, etc.).

Definition

Rec 20 provides a 2-3 character repository for units. Common codes: KGM (kilogram), MTR (metre), MTQ (cubic metre), PCE (piece), LBR (pound), GLI (gallon imperial). The code EA = Each is not Rec 20 (it is UN/CEFACT) but widely used.

Origin

Published in 1985 by UN/CEFACT. Reference for UNECE Code List 26 (units of measure) used in EDIFACT and by PEPPOL/EN 16931.

Use

In an EDIFACT INVOIC: QTY+47:100:PCE'. The 47 (Invoiced quantity) followed by 100 PCE (Piece) declares 100 invoiced pieces. Rec-20 code coherence is validated by Schematron on the PEPPOL side.
