Definition
Schema.org is a W3C/Google/Bing/Yahoo/Yandex vocabulary covering ~800 types and 1500 properties. Use cases: Rich Snippets, knowledge graphs, agentic AI parsing pages. Embedded JSON-LD format (recommended), Microdata, RDFa. ~6-monthly updates. Coexists with other ontologies (GoodRelations, FOAF, BIBFRAME).
Origin
Schema.org launched 2 June 2011 by Google, Microsoft Bing, Yahoo!, Yandex (joined 2014).
Example in context
Indeed exposes a JobPosting JSON-LD for each offer ; Google indexes and displays in Jobs section with salary, location, employment type.
