Definition
Saxon — reference implementation of XSLT 3.0 and XPath 3.1 by Saxonica (Michael Kay). It is the most widely used XSLT processor for UBL ↔ CII transformations and for executing Schematron rules.
Origin
Saxon was born in 1998 at Michael Kay's, who is also the editor of the W3C XSLT specification. The HE (Home Edition) version is open source, EE (Enterprise) is commercial.
Use
PEPPOL gateways run Saxon HE to apply EN 16931 XSLT 3.0 transformations (UBL ↔ CII) and the official Schematron rules.
