SAM
Entity-identity registry for US federal procurement.
Definition
SAM.gov is the single registration platform for entities seeking to do business with the US federal government. It consolidated legacy systems (CCR, ORCA, EPLS), generates the Unique Entity Identifier (UEI), and associates a CAGE Code with each active registration.
Origin
Operated by the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA); registration in SAM is mandated by the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), notably FAR Subpart 4.11.
Example in context
Before bidding, a company activates its SAM.gov registration, receives a UEI, and has its CAGE Code attached to it for reference in contracts.
