MT548

SWIFT Category 5 (securities) message, settlement status advice.

Definition

The MT548 tells the instructing party what happened to its MT54x instruction: accepted, pending, rejected, failing or settled. Status codes (e.g. PEND, REJT, CAN) and reason codes (e.g. LACK for lack of securities) are carried by qualifiers 25D and 24B.

Origin

Specified in the SWIFT Standards MT Category 5 (Securities Markets) Message Reference Guide, ISO 15022 syntax (ISO/TC 68), SWIFT as registration authority.

Example in context

:25D::SETT//PEND then :24B::PEND//LACK → instruction pending due to insufficient securities provision.

  • MT541 — receive-against-payment instruction whose status the MT548 reports.
  • MT536 — statement of transactions once the instruction settles.
