MT-TAG-50A
MT tag 50a identifies the Ordering Customer of an MT 103; sub-options 50A (BIC), 50F (Identifier + structured address line) and 50K (free text).
Definition
Tag 50a is the KYC pivot of a wire transfer: it describes the customer at the origin of the payment. Since FATF Recommendation 16 (2012) and SWIFT MT 2018, the structured 50F sub-option is preferred to provide name, address, tax identifier in machine-actionable form.
Origin
Present since early MT 1xx versions. Structured sub-option 50F arrives with SWIFT Standards 2018 to meet anti-money-laundering requirements.
Use
An MT 103 from a BNP Paribas customer to a US supplier carries :50F:/FR7630003000300012345678901\n1/Acme SARL\n2/12 rue de Rivoli\n3/FR/Paris. This structure lets transit banks filter (PEP, sanctions) automatically.
