MRN
Customs declaration reference, EORI and customs procedures.
Definition
The MRN is generated automatically by customs when a declaration is accepted. Its 18-character structure is: 2 digits for the year, 2 letters for the office's ISO country code, then 14 alphanumeric characters. It serves as the tracking key for the operation and appears on the accompanying document (EAD/TAD). Distinct from the LRN, which is assigned by the declarant before submission.
Origin
Structure defined by the WCO Data Model (World Customs Organization) and the Union Customs Code implementing acts (EU Regulation 952/2013), implemented in NCTS and AES.
Example in context
A transit declaration opened in France receives the MRN 25FR1234567890ABCD, which the carrier presents at the office of destination.
