Definition

The LX segment (Assigned Number) belongs to the ANSI ASC X12 segment directory. Its purpose: assign a numerical line counter to a transaction loop.

Origin

Published by ASC X12 — the Accredited Standards Committee chartered by ANSI in 1979. Segments are released version by version (004010, 005010, 006020) and refined by Implementation Guides or TR3 documents (HIPAA).

Use

The LX segment is used in X12 810 Invoice and 850 Purchase Order to number summary lines. Like every X12 segment, it starts with its three-character identifier, followed by elements separated by the data element separator declared in the ISA.

  • ST — Transaction Set header.
