NIP

Polish tax ID, e-invoice parties.

Definition

The NIP is assigned by the Polish tax administration and appears in the Podmiot1 (seller) and Podmiot2 (buyer) blocks of the FA schema. In KSeF the NIP also acts as an authorisation key: it is via the NIP that an entity accesses the system and its inbound invoices are routed to it. Its tenth digit is a weighted checksum.

Origin

Established by the Polish act on the principles of registration and identification of taxpayers (ustawa o zasadach ewidencji i identyfikacji podatników i płatników), administered by the Krajowa Administracja Skarbowa (National Revenue Administration).

Example in context

<Podmiot1><DaneIdentyfikacyjne><NIP>1234567890</NIP><Nazwa>ACME Sp. z o.o.</Nazwa></DaneIdentyfikacyjne></Podmiot1>

  • FA(2) — schema where NIP identifies the parties.
  • KSeF — system that routes invoices by NIP.
