JIS-AUTOMOTIVE
Auto-sequenced delivery for assembly line.
Definition
JIS requires the JINFDE message (Just-In-sequence Information for Delivery) describing the planned sequence (chassis number → component). A sequence break (wrong order, missing) triggers a line stop — costs measured in minutes.
Origin
German VW/BMW practice from the 1990s ; generalised by modularisation.
Example in context
BMW Leipzig receives its dashboards in exact VIN sequence 90 minutes before mounting.
