Jaeger architecture: Agent (local UDP), Collector (gRPC/HTTP), Query (UI + API), Storage (Cassandra, Elasticsearch, Kafka). Jaeger UI (React). Jaeger v2 (June 2024) based on OpenTelemetry Collector. Competitor: Tempo Grafana, Zipkin, AWS X-Ray, Honeycomb.

Origin

Inspired by Google Dapper and Twitter Zipkin ; launched by Uber 2015 ; open-sourced April 2017 ; CNCF graduation October 2019.
