Definition
ISO 3166-3 uses a 4-letter code: 2 from the new country + 2 from the previous. Examples: DDDE (East Germany), SUHH (USSR), YUCS (Yugoslavia). Allows EDI archive systems to correctly reference obsolete country codes in historical transactions.
