Definition

Defines 4 security levels (1 to 4), covers cryptographic design, physical tamper countermeasures, self-test, roles and authentication, key management. Referenced by eIDAS and by SSCD (Signature Creation Devices) qualification schemes in Europe.

Origin

First edition 2006. Current 2012 edition, aligned with FIPS 140-3 published by NIST in 2019.
