RFC process: Internet-Draft (-00, -01, ... last call) -> IESG Approval -> RFC publication via RFC Editor. ~50 RFCs published/year. IETF meetings 3x/year (~1500-2000 participants).
Origin
IETF created 1986 by US government ARPA contractors (Steve Crocker initial chair) ; rebranded parent organisation IETF Administration LLC 2018 ; ~10000 active participants 2024.
