GS1-128
The linear barcode that carries AIs on logistic labels and pallets.
Definition
GS1-128 is not a separate symbology but a regulated subset of Code 128: it begins with an FNC1 and concatenates one or more AIs with their values. It carries SSCCs, dates, batch numbers and quantities, notably on the GS1 logistic label (pallets, cases).
Origin
Defined in the GS1 General Specifications; built on the Code 128 symbology standardised by ISO/IEC 15417. Renamed EAN-128 → GS1-128 in 2005.
Example in context
A pallet label encodes (00) SSCC then (02)(37)(15): SSCC, contained GTIN, unit count, best-before date.
