GRAFANA-EDI
Grafana (EDI) is the Grafana open-source visualisation and alerting platform — built on pluggable datasources (Prometheus, Loki, Tempo, Elasticsearch, PostgreSQL).
Definition
Grafana is the dominant UI for modern observability architectures. Combined with Prometheus (metrics), Loki (logs) and Tempo (traces), it provides a full open-source stack comparable to Datadog. Rich plugins, JSON-versioned dashboarding.
Origin
Created in 2014 by Torkel Ödegaard (fork of Kibana 3). Grafana Labs founded in 2014. Over 1M active deployments in 2024.
Use
An EDI gateway exposes Prometheus metrics (edi_messages_total, edi_errors_total) on a /metrics endpoint. Grafana shows an 'EDI Health' dashboard: per-partner throughput, top 10 errors, latency heatmap. Slack alerts via Grafana Unified Alerting.
