GMN — Global Model Number, GS1 key designed to identify a product model (the class of instances) rather than a tradable item. Adopted in healthcare/medical devices.

Origin

Published by GS1 in the Identification Keys standard revision, GMN answers the model identification requirement introduced by EU MDR regulation 2017/745 on medical devices.

Use

A medical device manufacturer uses a GMN for the model, then a GTIN per commercial variant. Healthcare EDIFACT/UBL messages may carry both references side by side.
