EQD

Equipment Details. The EDIFACT segment that describes a piece of transport equipment — container, trailer, wagon — used to convey goods.

Definition

Per UN/EDIFACT D.96A, EQD "identifies a unit of equipment". Its structure:

  • 8053 — Equipment type code qualifier (mandatory): UNCL 8053, e.g. CN Container, TE Trailer, CH Chassis, RR Rail wagon, AF Aircraft, VE Vehicle.
  • C237 — Equipment identification: unique identifier (ISO 6346 number for maritime containers, up to 17 characters), code list (3055), country (3207).
  • C224 — Equipment size and type: ISO 6346 size/type code (e.g. 20G1, 40HC).
  • C228 — Type of unit: additional description.
  • 8077 — Equipment supplier code qualifier and 8249 — Equipment status code.

Origin

EQD has been defined in EDIFACT since the transport subset and is primarily consumed by IFTMIN (transport instructions), IFTSTA (transport status), COPARN (container arrival announcement) and BAPLIE (vessel stowage plan). The maritime industry has relied on ISO 6346 (standard since 1972) for container identifiers.

Example in context

40-foot high-cube maritime container in transit:

Reading: Container (CN) equipment, identified MSCU1234567, ISO 6346 size/type 45G1 (40' high-cube, general purpose), operational (status 4), responsibility of the sending party (qualifier 1).

  • HAN — handling instructions attached to the equipment.
  • LOC — where the equipment is positioned.
  • Segment — general notion.
  • Qualifier — UNCL 8053 and 8249 set type and status.
