VERMAS
UN/EDIFACT verified gross mass message (VGM, SOLAS).
Definition
VERMAS submits the verified gross mass of one or many containers belonging to a defined transport movement. The only mandatory data are the transport equipment and the VGM value. Any party in the chain may be sender or receiver, forwarding a VGM obtained itself or received from a third party.
Origin
UN/EDIFACT UNSM (UNECE UNTDID directories, from D.16A) implementing SOLAS chapter VI, part A, regulation 2 (in force 1 July 2016); SMDG guideline.
Example in context
A shipper sends a VERMAS to the carrier: the EQD segment identifies the container and MEA carries the VGM value (e.g. AAE+VGM+KGM:24500), before loading.
