Service Characters

The six service characters declared by the UNA segment.

Definition

In order: UNA1 component data element separator (default :), UNA2 data element separator (+), UNA3 decimal notation (.), UNA4 release character (?), UNA5 character reserved for future use (space) and UNA6 segment terminator (apostrophe '). The release character lets a value contain a separator literally.

Origin

Defined in ISO 9735 (UN/EDIFACT Application Level Syntax Rules), maintained by ISO TC 154 and published by UN/CEFACT.
