EAN-UCC
EAN/UCC heritage. See official source.
Definition
EAN/UCC — historical name of the family of barcodes and identifiers managed jointly by EAN International and Uniform Code Council, before the merger into GS1 (2005). EAN.UCC = GS1.
Origin
EAN International was created in 1977 in Europe; the Uniform Code Council in the US in 1973. The 2005 merger under the GS1 name unified naming: EAN-13 → GTIN-13, EAN-14 → GTIN-14, UCC-12 → GTIN-12.
Use
EAN/UCC references still appear in some historical commercial documents and product sheets; any new deployment uses GTIN.
