DTM-X12
Date/Time/Period (X12). The X12 generic segment that carries a qualified date, time or period — distinct from EDIFACT DTM.
Definition
The DTM segment in X12 carries a date, time or period qualified by a Date/Time Qualifier (DE 374). It is used throughout X12 Transaction Sets: order date (002), expected receive date (010), invoice date (003), ship date (011).
Origin
X12 DTM is a cross-cutting segment defined in X12.6 from the early versions of the ANSI X12 standard. It must not be confused with the EDIFACT DTM segment, which shares the same name but uses a different syntax and qualifier codes (UNCL 2005 vs DE 374).
Example in context
DTM*002*20260514~
DTM*010*20260520~
Here, 002 qualifies the order date (May 14, 2026), 010 qualifies the requested delivery date (May 20, 2026).
