Created in 1962 by the American Bankers Association. CUSIP is the root of US/CA ISINs (CC-DDDDDDDDD-K where DDDDDDDDD is the CUSIP and K a check digit).
Use
In ISO 20022 sec.012 messages or SWIFT MT5xx flows, the CUSIP is carried in the <Othr><Id> element of the FinancialInstrumentIdentification schema.
