Definition
Codex Alimentarius — body of international food standards published jointly by FAO and WHO since 1963. Its codes feed agri-food EDI code lists.
Origin
Created in 1963 by FAO and WHO, the Codex has 189 member states. It issues product standards, codes of practice and maximum residue limits.
Use
Codex codes are referenced in agri-food EDIFACT messages (notably Tracenet flows and certain DESADV with sanitary requirements) and in GS1 FoodLogiQ traceability.
