CNT

EDIFACT CNT segment, control totals in the INVOIC message summary.

Definition

CNT holds the C270 composite: a control type qualifier (DE 6069) and its value (DE 6066). In INVOIC, CNT+2 states the number of line-item (LIN) segments and CNT+1 the number of items. It appears in the summary section after UNS+S and acts as a consistency check on the receiving side.

Origin

Defined in the United Nations EDIFACT directory (UN/EDIFACT) maintained by UN/CEFACT, and in the INVOIC message specification.

Example in context

CNT+2:5' — control total stating 5 detail line items in the invoice.

  • UNS — separates the message sections.
  • LIN — line item counted by CNT.
  • MOA — summary total amounts.
