CMP

Composite Data Element Information. The EDIFACT segment that describes the structure of a composite element.

Definition

The CMP (Composite Data Element Information) segment declares characteristics of a composite data element: tag number (UNCL 9420), level code, component count. It is used in EDIFACT directory-management messages such as MSGRPT and CODECO to dynamically document message structures.

Origin

CMP belongs to the meta-EDIFACT branch of the UNTDID, dedicated to carrying specifications of other messages. It was added to enable automated delivery of message specifications between partners.

Example in context

CMP+C516+M+2'

Here, C516 is the composite tag (Monetary Amount), M states the status (Mandatory), 2 gives the minimum number of components used.

  • UNTDID — the UN/CEFACT repository.
  • ISO 9735 — the EDIFACT syntax standard.
  • Segment — the atomic unit of an EDIFACT message.
