Definition
CGI-MP reduces bank-specific variants by defining a common usage of the pain.001, pain.002, pain.008 and camt messages. A corporate can therefore use the same payment file format across several banks.
Origin
An open initiative launched in 2009 and facilitated by SWIFT, which publishes the CGI-MP Implementation Guidelines for the ISO 20022 payments message family.
Example in context
A group treasurer sends one CGI-MP-compliant pain.001 to BNP Paribas, Citi and Deutsche Bank with no per-bank changes.
