Definition
The BUS (Business Function) segment states the economic nature of a transaction in coded form: business classification (UNCL 3279), transaction code (UNCL 3499), payment instrument code. It directs back-office processing, particularly for banking operations.
Origin
BUS is defined by UN/CEFACT in the UNTDID. It is found in EDIFACT financial messages such as PAYMUL and FINPAY where the exact nature of the flow conditions downstream handling.
