Monetary Amount Function. The EDIFACT segment that qualifies the function of an amount and the identity of its recipient.

Definition

The ARD (Monetary Amount Function) segment describes the function of an amount (payment, discount, withholding) and identifies the account or party that receives it. It carries a function code (UNCL 5009) and the associated account details.

Origin

ARD is referenced in the UN/CEFACT UNTDID. It appears in payment, documentary remittance and banking instruction messages where every amount must be traced down to a specific account.

Example in context

ARD+15+ACC-12345:25:5'

Here, 15 codes the function (Payment), ACC-12345 is the account identifier, 25 qualifies the account code, 5 states the branch.

  • MOA — segment carrying the amount itself.
  • FII — segment that details bank coordinates.
  • UNTDID — the UN/CEFACT repository.
