AMT

Monetary Amount. The X12 catch-all segment carrying any qualified monetary amount within a Transaction Set.

Definition

The AMT (Monetary Amount) segment is a generic X12 segment that carries an amount within any Transaction Set. It carries an Amount Qualifier Code (DE 522) and an amount (DE 782). The qualifier states the nature of the amount: total invoiced (TT), balance due (B6), discount (D), etc.

Origin

AMT is defined by the X12 Insurance Subcommittee and broadly reused outside insurance. It is one of the cross-cutting X12 segments maintained by ASC X12 under the ANSI X12 standard, since version 003010.

Example in context

AMT*TT*1250.00~
AMT*B6*1000.00~

Two instances: TT qualifies the total amount (Total invoice = 1250.00), B6 qualifies the balance due (1000.00).

  • MOA — EDIFACT counterpart, generic monetary segment.
  • X12 — the North-American standard for which AMT is a cross-cutting segment.
  • REF — X12 external reference segment.
