ALI

Additional Information. The EDIFACT segment that stacks regulatory, customs or logistics indicators.

Definition

The ALI (Additional Information) segment declares additional indicators in coded form: country of origin, special treatment (UNCL 4183), country of transit (UNCL 3239). It is primarily used for customs requirements and tariff preferences.

Origin

ALI is defined by UN/CEFACT in the UNTDID. It is widely used in logistics messages (IFTMIN, IFTSAI, CUSDEC) and in INVOIC to qualify origin and special regimes applicable to goods.

Example in context

ALI+FR+1+1'

Here, FR states the country of origin, 1 qualifies the destination country, and 1 activates a special treatment (e.g. a tariff preference claim).

  • LOC — segment that pins down origin and destination locations.
  • NAD — segment identifying the parties involved.
  • UNTDID — the UN/CEFACT repository.
