AIAG MMOG/LE

The joint AIAG and Odette framework for assessing the logistics management of automotive sites and suppliers.

Definition

MMOG/LE (Materials Management Operations Guideline / Logistics Evaluation) measures a site's supply chain management processes against industry best practice, including risk management and ESG criteria. Any organisation in the supply chain can use it for self-assessment, and business partners can use it as an audit tool to select and evaluate suppliers. Aimed primarily at the automotive sector, it is also used in other industries.

Version 6 has six chapters: strategy and improvement, work organisation, capacity and production planning, customer interface, production and product control, supplier interface. Each criterion is weighted F1 (1 point), F2 (2 points) or F3 (3 points, a fundamental process). The Full version has 176 criteria and classifies the site A, B or C; the Basic version keeps 96 of them, targets the lower tiers of the supply chain and classifies ZA, ZB or ZC. Level A requires every F3 criterion, fewer than 9 non-compliant F2 criteria and a score of at least 95%; a single non-compliant F3 criterion puts the site in C.

The assessment can be carried out by the site itself, or verified by the customer or by a third party the customer approves; an annual assessment is recommended. EDI exchanges with customers and suppliers are among the processes assessed.

Origin

MMOG/LE derives from two frameworks both first published in 1999: AIAG's Materials Management Operations Guideline (MMOG) and the Odette Logistics Evaluation (OLE). AIAG and Odette combined them into a single framework usable worldwide, which they revise regularly. Version 6 dates from 2023.

Example in context

A Tier 1 supplier scores 96% on its Full MMOG/LE self-assessment, but one F3 criterion is not met: it is classified C despite that score and must put an action plan in place before aiming for level A.
