AGR

Agreement Identification. The EDIFACT segment that points to a contract or framework agreement binding two parties.

Definition

The AGR (Agreement Identification) segment identifies a commercial, contractual or regulatory agreement governing the transaction. It carries a coded agreement type (UNCL 7433) and an agreement reference. It is used to bind the transaction to a framework contract, a master agreement or a specific protocol.

Origin

AGR appears in the UN/CEFACT UNTDID. It is referenced in several transport and logistics EDIFACT messages (notably IFTMIN, IFTSAI) and in regulatory messages. Its structure defines up to three composite elements: agreement type, agreement identification, and version.

Example in context

AGR+1:CT:::CONTRACT-2026-0042'

Here, 1 qualifies the agreement type (Contract), CT states its category, and CONTRACT-2026-0042 is the applicable contract reference.

  • RFF — generic external reference segment, a broader alternative to AGR.
  • UNTDID — the UN/CEFACT repository that specifies AGR.
  • Segment — the atomic unit of an EDIFACT message.
