Historical ACORD standard for life insurance and annuity.
Definition
ACORD AL3 uses fixed-width record structures identified by type codes (1H header, 2D detail, 9T trailer). Still used by legacy carriers (Prudential, MetLife) to transmit policies, cash values, beneficiaries. Gradually replaced by ACORD XML for Life (OLifE) then the ACORD Life Data Model.

Published by ACORD (Association for Cooperative Operations Research and Development) since the 1980s.

An AL3 file starts with a 1H record carrying carrier code, date, control numbers ; followed by 2D records detailing each policy.
